Hommage au Négre  ( Tribute to the Nigger ):
Hommage au Négre is a performance piece and installation in which the audience becomes full participants in the work. The sculptural collection for Hommage Au Négre by Arouna Guindo documents the movement of the piece through its creation. This piece challenges the conception of our experience in America to outside countries through crossings of borders outlined in physical space through memories. As we question identity and the complexity of the effects of Transatlantic Slave Trade on both the diaspora and the continent, we question the harsh reality of being both African and American.

Title: Portrait of a Free Woman of Color ( 2nd installment)
Choreography by Caleb Dowden in collaboration with Arouna Guindo
Benin, West Africa

Portrait of a Free Woman of Color explores the distorted image of a woman suffering oppression at the hands of the patriarchy. Through an exploration into the identity of the African continent and the African diaspora,  this work analyzes the intersection of race and gender, with a focus on control, power structures, and value systems within marginalized communities.
Dow-Dance Company latest work in progress, Portrait of A Free Women of Color. The piece explores how we all exist within a chaotic globe amongst varied identities. We question what connects us and who separates us.   How can the body truly be FREE? The first installment of this work premiered at  Binge Dance Festival on December 17, 2021. The piece is currently being explored in Benin, West Africa.

"What does radical Black love look like in a racist world? How do we find love when we have to fight to simply exist?  This dance/media work explores how Black people continue to find happiness and joy even in the predominantly white spaces of Sundown Towns, where our very presence makes us unsafe. A kinetic, visual representation of Black stories celebrating how radical Black love has and always will flourish, even in the midst of violence."
